As part of FOX’s New Year’s Eve special, WWE presented Roman Reigns vs. Dolph Ziggler.

Steve Harvey, hosting the special live in Times Square, noted that WWE was part of the FOX family and sent it to the “last match of the year.”

Maria Menounos was announced as the guest ring announcer.

Corey Graves and Michael Cole are the announcers.  Graves said that he hopes she brought some of that Times Square energy to Brooklyn.  The match was actually taped in Detroit, so go figure.

Dolph Ziggler vs. Roman Reigns

The two locked up with Reigns getting the better of the exchange and locking on a side headlock. Ziggler sent him off into the ropes but was shoulderblocked down.  Ziggler caught Reigns with a DDT for a two count.  He controlled Roman and scored several two counts.  The cameras kept going back to Menounos, clapping at ringside.  The crowd rallied Roman but Ziggler went after his knee and hit a splash in the corner.  Roman cut him off with a big boot.

Roman teased the Superman Punch but Ziggler ducked and rolled him up for a two count.  Roman was nailed with a ZigZag for a close two count.     Ziggler set up for a superkick but Roman caught his foot and nailed the Superman Punch.  Roman prepared for the spear but was kneed in the face.  Ziggler went for another ZigZag but Roman avoided it and speared Ziggler for the pin.

Your winner, Roman Reigns!

A short match that was more a fast-paced highlight reel but as a showcase for the WWE brand, it was fine.

Roman took the mic and said it’s been quite a year.  He said he wouldn’t be standing in the ring that he loves in front of all the fans that he loves without all the support and prayers fans sent.  He said that he’s not leaving 2019 without saying thank you one more time.  He said thank you on behalf of his family.  He said that he’s proud to be standing here on behalf of WWE and the “WWE Universe” to say Happy New Year’s.
